Sports News: Shubman Gill, who captained the Indian Test team for the first time during the England tour, earned widespread praise for both his batting and leadership. He emerged as the highest run-scorer of the series, which ended in a 2-2 draw—a result considered a significant achievement for India. Following the series, Gill’s match-worn T-shirt was auctioned, fetching the highest price among memorabilia from players of both India and England.

Gill wore this iconic T-shirt during the third Test at Lord’s, and it was sold for approximately ₹5.41 lakh. The auction was organized by the charity foundation ‘Red for Rath.’ Besides players’ jerseys, other items such as caps, bats, and tickets were also auctioned during the event.

Bumrah and Jadeja’s Jerseys Fetch High Bids

India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s T-shirts were the next most expensive, each fetching ₹4.84 lakh. Following them was KL Rahul, whose jersey was sold for ₹4.70 lakh. On the England side, Joe Root’s jersey commanded the highest price at ₹4.47 lakh, while captain Ben Stokes’ jersey was sold for ₹4 lakh.

Among the caps auctioned, Joe Root’s autographed cap was the most valuable, receiving a final bid of ₹3.52 lakh. India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant’s cap fetched the second-highest bid, selling for ₹1.76 lakh.

About the Red for Rath Foundation

Every year, one day of the Test match at Lord’s is dedicated to the ‘Red for Rath’ Foundation, started by former England captain Andrew Strauss. On this day, players, broadcasters, and spectators wear something red as a tribute to Strauss’ late wife, who lost her battle with cancer. The foundation has been actively supporting cancer patients and their families, having assisted over 3,500 families in the last six years.

Auction highlighted the spirit of sportsmanship and charity

The auction not only raised significant funds for cancer support but also highlighted the spirit of sportsmanship and charity within the cricketing community. Fans and collectors eagerly participated, knowing that their contributions would make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. Events like these reinforce the role of sports beyond just competition, showing how athletes and organizations can come together for meaningful causes.
